LAKESHORE FLOOD WARNING…for the Lake Erie Shoreline 12:00 PM Monday through 8:00 AM Tuesday…
Most of Easter Sunday will be blanketed by a wealth of clouds and a few light rain showers, though with notably higher temperatures, in the upper-50s and some low-60s in the afternoon. While we expect a few occasional passing showers, we will also see plenty of rain-free time much of Easter Sunday. Conditions will deteriorate overnight as a strengthening storm approaches from the west. Expect steadier rain and increasing winds into Monday morning.
This storm will likely turn out to be a high impact event for our region Monday. While rain will increase into Monday, the focus will be on strong wind gusts, first developing across the higher terrain and along the Erie lakeshore by Monday morning. Throughout Monday, as the wind direction swings around to the southwest, high potentially damaging wind gusts will impact the Niagara Frontier including the Buffalo-Niagara Falls metro. The latest computer models show the winds peaking Monday afternoon, upwards of 60-70 mph at times. There may be a few thunderstorms as a cold front crosses the region Monday afternoon. The strongest winds will likely be between 2-7pm.
Behind this, winds will gradually back off at night, but may not be below the damaging threshold until early Tuesday morning. Steadier rain will taper off to scattered rain showers Monday afternoon before clearing out by the evening hours. The weather quiets down for a few days after Monday with significantly cooler than average temperatures. A few snow showers are possible towards the end of the week with a colder than normal airmass.
